Hi. I’m a performing artist, writer, and beach naturalist, living rurally on Upper Skagit and stuləgʷábš land with my partner and our dog. I create performance that plays with the tension between composition and improvisation, in which structure is achieved via each artist’s sensitivity to chance, intuition, and choice within the group dynamic. I’m interested in the effort of presence rather than the effort of repetition.
I’m deeply committed to a non-coercive creative process that centers care and joy. This approach lays the foundation for trusting, long term relationships with people and place. Since moving to Coast Salish territory, I've extended my thoughts on improvisation to include land, water, and more-than-human beings as autonomous dance partners and mentors. This is my living land acknowledgement and my current dance practice: Asking for consent from, and offering gratitude to, the spaces I perform with/in. This practice has brought me into a deep and humble relationship with the land I live on. I’m happy to be here with you.
